Homeschool Resources

I've been a home-school mom for the last year and a half.  I can honestly say it has brought tremendous joy to my life.  I didn't plan on homeschooling; but apparently it's what God had planned for us.  We realized homeschooling was necessary for our family after our second child, Landon, started pre-kindergarten.  He was doing great, at first, then things took a turn for the worse. Landon has a medical condition called Eosinophilic Esophagitis (or EOE for short).  EOE is a chronic/ allergic immune condition that causes inflammation in the esophagus.  He also has food allergies (lots of them), environmental allergies, severe eczema and chronic constipation.  My little guy has been through a lot, to say the least.  I was so nervous about sending him to school but I didn't want my fears to keep him from all the great things school had to offer (friends, field trips, school

programs, etc.).  So I prayed over him, took a deep breath and let him go.  About half way through the school year I noticed a change in his behavior.  He would say things like, "I'm just an idiot" or "Nobody likes me because I'm an idiot." It broke my heart, to say the least.  I talked to his teacher about it and she was great.  However, she was kind of pinned between a rock and a hard place.  She loved Landon but she had 20 other students she had to take care of.  So sometimes she had to ignore his behavior and tend to the rest of the class.  Landon would often throw fits during class and I was informed that the staff at the school had to physically remove him from the class at times.  I felt this was unfair to everyone involved, his teacher, the other students, and most importantly, Landon.  I prayed about...and prayed about it...and prayed about it.  And finally, made the plunge and took him out of public school.  My husband and I felt it was necessary.  We could see his self-esteem deteriorating by the minute.  I was completely out of my element and had no clue where to begin with this new home-school journey.  After a lot of googling...and frustrated crying spills (LOL), I began to finally figure this homeschooling thing out.  On this page, I have created a list of home-school resources for those moms who have decided to take the plunge but don't know where to start.  Hope this helps!
